TILES & STORMS
What should I do if a roof tile blows off?

Practical steps after a tile blows off, from keeping clear to recording the damage.
Keep clear of the affected area
A missing tile may leave part of the roof exposed. Nearby tiles or ridge pieces may also have moved. Keep people away from the area below and do not attempt to access the roof yourself.
Record what happened
From a safe position on the ground, note where the damage appears to be and whether more material looks loose. A photograph of the roof and any fallen tile can help explain the problem. Do not enter an area where something else could fall.
Check for water indoors
If safe, look for new damp marks or drips inside the property. Tell us whether water is entering and whether there are damaged or wet electrical fittings. Stay away from any electrical hazard.
Discuss the repair
Share your location, when the damage occurred and what you can see. The affected area and nearby materials need assessing before deciding on a repair. Availability and any temporary protection need to be discussed rather than assumed.
